The Apple Watch is a device that for many years has been touted as an important device that helps people in the field of health and well-being. He is often credited with helping users call for help when they are in danger. This time, a 71-year-old woman fell, became very ill and the clock called 911 (192 in Brazil).
It was because the Apple smartwatch called for help that the woman went to the hospital and there she discovered something more serious than the injuries of the fall. Doctors detected lung cancer.

Earlier this month, Raylene Hackenwerth suffered a fall while alone, but the fall detection feature on the Apple Watch was able to notify her son, Jason, and alert first responders.
According to the WFTS Tampa Bay network, the Apple Watch that the woman was wearing had been given to her at Christmas by her son. The idea was for the smartwatch to monitor the mother’s exercise. Raylene Hackenwerth doesn’t remember what happened on March 3, but her son does: “My mom’s Apple Watch alerted my phone, so I got a message that there was a strong fall, I was in the shower and I didn’t see it.” , said Jason Hackenwerth.
The device proved to be very useful when it detected that the 71-year-old woman had fallen hard. Upon registering the fall, the watch immediately called the medical emergency number, 911 (in Brazil it is 192).
Joshua Stevens was one of the paramedics who responded and said a distress call from a watch is very helpful. “It sends the geolocation, latitude and longitude, so I would say that is a very useful feature,” said the rescuer. When help arrived, they found Raylene “almost unconscious and badly treated”. The woman was transported to the local hospital, where doctors “discovered a mass in her lungs that was cancerous”.
“If it wasn’t for the fall and the Apple Watch calling for help, I wouldn’t even have known it was there and maybe by the time it was discovered it would be too late,” Hackenwerth told the TV channel.
Now the Apple device user is waiting to undergo treatment and said she and her son are grateful for a feature they didn’t even know the watch had. “I couldn’t be happier that this is what we decided to give him for Christmas. It never occurred to me that this would save his life,” Jason said.
