With the iPhone 12 line, Apple has stopped including the charger and earphones in the package: the choice would have earned the Cupertino company the beauty of 6 billion euros, according to analysts. At the time the decision was heavily criticized and presented by Apple as necessary for environmental protection: packaging volumes have been reduced by 70 percent and the carbon emissions cut by 2 million tons per year, the equivalent of 450,000 cars. An undoubtedly remarkable result but also advantageous from an economic point of view, with more iPhones transported in the same space and a consequent increase in turnover. After all, there are always a lot of chargers in the house and it is difficult to run out of it, even if fast charging requires new hardware: Apple sells the 20W charging socket separately, at 25 euros. Certainly the choice to lighten the packaging of smartphones was followed by other manufacturers, such as Samsung. From September 2020 to date, it is estimated that around 190 million iPhones have been sold, with 6 billion in total savings.
