The 26-year-old striker has started just two Premier League games this season and his agent said this month he wanted to leave the club in January to get more game opportunities.
“Last Wednesday we talked for a long time,” Rangnick told British media. “He explained to me that he spent 7 years at United and feels it is the right time to change and move to another team.”
He continued, “I can understand his position, but on the other hand it is also important to see the situation of the club. We are still suffering from Covid-19 and we are competing in three tournaments in which we still have great ambition.”
He added, “I told him that as long as no club wanted to sign him, he should not only think of his own interest, but that it should also be in the club’s interest. So far, there are no offers for the player and if this situation continues, he will remain at United.”
The German coach also said that French midfielder Paul Pogba needs two weeks to recover after returning from Dubai, where he was being treated for a thigh injury.
