Published last week, Animal Well it is positively surprising players, given the large amount of surprises it contains. One of these requires the contribution of at least fifty players to solve a puzzle, despite the game being essentially single player.
Be careful, because to talk about the puzzle we will have to give some information previews about the end of the game. If you don’t want to have any, don’t read any further and live in peace.
The end game puzzle
Animal Well is a metroidvania developed by a single person, Billy Basso, full of puzzles to solve and places to visit, some absolutely brilliant. At a superficial glance it may not seem like anything special, but it really has a lot to say and offer.
To beat the game and see the credits, the player must collect four flames scattered across different areas of the map. However, there are some unexpected turns, which greatly expand the treasure hunt, so to speak. After the flames, you need to collect at least 32 of 64 Easter Eggs and place them in the right recesses. By doing so you will obtain a secret item which is used to unlock the “true ending” and which we can consider the third phase of the gameplay.
This is where things get complicated. At the beginning of the adventure you encounter a mosaic with rabbits, large 40×10 tiles. Once the game apparently ends, it becomes possible to manipulate it and access a 4×4 grid similar to the larger one. Here comes the community’s need to coordinate, because each player’s 4×4 grid represents the fiftieth part of a larger mosaic. To access the next puzzle you must therefore have all the other parts, obtainable from other players, and arrange them in a certain sequence. If you don’t want to spend too much time on it, it’s already here part of the solution. At the time of writing this news, some pieces are still missing, so get busy, also because Animal Well is one of the games in this month’s PlayStation Plus Extra. So many of you will already be playing it.
