Mirra Andreeva, the 17 -year -old Russian girl, got the third title of her career at Indian Wells, second in the WTA 1000 category, after defeating the Belarusa Aryna Sabalenka in the final. With this triumph, the teenager accumulates her second consecutive rank after crowning champion at the WTA 1000 of Dubai on February 22 by beating Clara Tauson.
Andreeva has managed to beat two of the best players in the world in a single tournament. In semifinals, he defeated Ig Swiatek, champion in 2024 and number two of the WTA ranking.
The way to the title was complicated at the beginning of the final, but Andreeva showed a great ability to adapt and overcome after losing the first set (2-6). However, the Russian tennis player did not give up and traced with authority, taking the next two sets 6-2 and 6-3 in a final that extended for two hours and four minutes.
With this victory, Mirra Andreeva amounts to the sixth position in the Ránking WTA, becoming the second youngest player among the 150 best in the world, only behind the American Viva Jovic. In addition, he becomes the third youngest tennis player in history to win Indian Wells, an achievement only previously reached by Martina Hingis in 1998 and Serena Williams in 1999.
