American expert: Ukraine could provoke a direct conflict between the US and Russia
Ukraine may ignore the conditions for the use of Western long-range weapons in order to try to provoke an open conflict between Moscow and Washington. This opinion was expressed by an American expert who preferred to remain anonymous, writes TASS.
The agency’s interlocutor commented on the provocative decision to launch US military strikes on Russian territory.
“President Biden’s move represents an attempt to shore up Ukraine’s crumbling defenses in Kharkiv while seeking to avoid the radical escalation that would follow strikes against Russia,” he said.
According to the expert, “Washington hopes that Moscow will show restraint, as it did with previous forms of support.” However, the decision to strike the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Western weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation is an extremely dangerous step, the agency’s interlocutor noted.
Earlier, military correspondent Evgeniy Poddubny “said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces began shelling the Belgorod region with Western weapons, including HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems. Poddubny stressed that the fact of such use of weapons indicates a new round of escalation.
Politico also previously wrote that Europe and Kyiv asked the United States for permission for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to attack throughout Russia.
