Mexico City.- The President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador sent a letter to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in which he asks that funding for Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity be stopped (MCCI) for being offensive to national sovereignty.
“Even though it is a relatively small amount, this procedure is completely offensive and contrary to the relations of respect for our sovereignties that both you and I have been cultivating for the good of our nations.
“I hope I can do something to stop this injustice that threatens our constitutional principle of non-intervention and self-determination of peoples,” López Obrador said at his morning press conference.
Last Friday, the federal president revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent another diplomatic note to the United States Government to complain about the financing of Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI).
López Obrador said that Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena informed him that this is the second diplomatic note sent for that purpose, and that the one sent in 2021 was ignored.
The head of the federal Executive has accused Mexicans Against Corruption of being a coup organization and of being financed by the United States, whose government he accused of interventionism.
This Monday, at the National Palace, the federal president directly accused the US of financing MCCI and detailed to Biden in his letter the amount of financing that his Government has provided since 2018 through various agencies.
“On this occasion I am writing to you to inform you that for some time now I have been publicly denouncing those within the United States Government who have clearly maintained an interventionist attitude by financing part of the activities carried out by the self-proclaimed organization Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity, AC, whose main purpose has been to attack our Government.
“What I am telling you is public and well-known, however, I would like to inform you that the United States Government, through agencies such as the one called the Agency for International Development (USAID), has given said organization 111 million pesos from 2018 to 2023 (I attach the corresponding evidence),” he mentioned.
AMLO added that he decided to send the letter to President Biden so that the US is clear that it must respect Mexico.
“I sent a letter regarding funding from the United States Government, we already sent it to President Biden, do you have it? We will let him know, because we made that commitment.
“We have a good relationship with the United States government, but we have to make it very clear that we must respect each other. That is the letter and we will see what happens,” he said.
