The director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa Etienne, said this Wednesday, 13, that the Americas recorded, in the last week, “more than 1.1 million cases and just over 24,000 deaths” by covid-19. During a virtual press conference, she also highlighted that cases of the disease “have decreased” in South America.
On the other hand, Etienne said that the supply of vaccines against covid-19 in the region “remains limited”. PAHO works to accelerate the distribution of immunization agents, especially in nations with lower vaccination coverage, said the authority.
In North America, cases have fallen overall, but they remain high in the Midwest region and also in Alaska, said the organization’s director.
