Although on paper the new AMD Ryzen 9000 processors look like a great technological leap, in the gaming segment the “old” Ryzen 7000 X3D could remain the best choice.
From every new generation of self-respecting processors, an improvement in performance is expected compared to the previous one. The new ones AMD Ryzen 9000 they will bring with them the new Zen 5 architecture and, if from a technological point of view there will be many innovations, on the performance front things may not change much, especially in the gaming segment.
During an interview granted to the American colleagues of Tom’s Hardware, Donny Woligroski of AMD declared that users in possession of a Ryzen 7000 X3D CPU can sleep soundly. Here are all the details.
New architecture, same performance?
AMD’s Zen 5 architecture should bring a lot of value a 16% increase in CPI for the new Ryzen 9000 series processors coming soon. The red house also showed off a +56% advantage over Intel’s Core i9-14900K, particularly in multi-threaded applications, with a solid +23% on the gaming front.
Donny Woligroski, Senior Technical Marketing Manager at AMD, recently highlighted some big changes that will accompany the Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs with “3D V-Cache.” However, the AMD head stated that while the Ryzen 9000 CPUs represent a big upgrade over the Ryzen 7000 X3D chips, the upcoming processors they may not offer superior performance compared to the current generation. In particular, Woligroski stated that the most recent “X3D will still be kings of the hill” in the gaming segment, albeit only with a small advantage.
In short, although generally faster, the new AMD Ryzen 9000 will not bring great advantages on the gaming side and, indeed, they could even be slightly slower than the 7000 X3D series.
What can we expect from AMD Ryzen 9000?
The Ryzen 7000 “X” CPUs enjoyed the big benefits of the Zen 4 architecture, which brought a notable performance leap over the Ryzen 5000 X3D chips.
With the AMD Ryzen 9000 series things will be different and the Ryzen 7000 X3D CPUs could remain the reference point for gamers, albeit with a minimal performance difference. However, the new processors will be of great advantage to everyone applications that take advantage of multi-threadingwaiting for the 9000 X3D series which should change the cards on the table again.
If gaming is your priority, it might be worth waiting a little longer before upgrading your CPU. In all other cases however, AMD Ryzen 9000 promises superior performance, a higher TDP and improved overclocking capabilities.
