AMD relaunches on its latest socket, pushing support until 2027, and announces two new chipsets, which will have USB 4.0 as standard.
AMD recently announced an extension of support for the AM5 socket through 2027, assuring tech enthusiasts and industry professionals that future PC upgrades they will not require an architectural change. This decision emphasizes AMD’s commitment to maintaining a stable and long-lasting platform, allowing users to invest in new components with the certainty that they will be supported in the long term.
Innovation with cutting-edge standards
In addition to the extended AM5 socket support, AMD has revealed two new chipsets, the X870 and the X870E, both designed to push the performance of desktop systems even higher. These chipsets will integrate USB 4.0 as standard, ensuring ultra-fast data transfers and improved connectivity. Additionally, both the X870 and X870E will support PCIe Gen 5 for GPUs and NVME devices, promising exceptional speeds in both gaming and professional applications.
Another highlight of the new chipsets is the Improved support for memory overclocking: This feature is particularly significant for users looking to optimize their machine’s performance to the maximum, ensuring higher memory frequencies for intensive tasks such as video rendering, scientific computing and maximum detail gaming.
The future of AMD
As for the future of AMD and what will come after Zen 5, for now we just have to wait: the date has been moved by 2 years, thanks to the fact that this architecture today is still modern enough to keep up with the rest. This means that realistically we can expect at least another 3 generations of desktop CPUs supported with the same platform and, considering the very recent announcements regarding the 5000 series, it is possible that support for AM5 will be even longer. During the conference it was clearly explained that the change is dictated precisely by these collateral innovations and probably the architecture that comes after will be able to last even longer, giving greater stability to the production of chipsets.
Meanwhile, AMD also announced during the event the arrival of the new 9000 Series CPUs, four to be exact, and the update of the 5000XT Series CPUs with two new models. It also revealed news about its 300 processors with AI.
