Amazon is, according to National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC)the “undisputed leader” of online shopping in Spain, followed by AliExpress and Zalando, as revealed by the Household Panel data for the second quarter of 2024 on electronic commerce in the country prepared by the organization.
The report, published this Friday, coinciding with the celebration of ‘Black Friday’, points out that the 54.1% of Spaniards made any online purchases during the last six months.
«In terms of online shopping platforms, the undisputed leader was amazon. 68.4% made an online purchase on this platform during the last six months. AliExpress was chosen by 29.4% of users, while Zalando for 6.3% and eBay for 4.3%. “1% claimed to have purchased through the online platform Google Shopping,” the CNMC said in a statement.
Likewise, the organization has highlighted that Amazon was also the online platform on which the most Spaniards made their last purchase on the internet, with a 55.1% of transactions in the last six months, followed by “other websites and mobile applications” (30.4%) and AliExpress (12%).
On the other hand, a 27.2% of Spaniards claimed to have hired some online organized tripflight, car rental or accommodation in the last twelve months.
The CNMC Household Panel It has a semiannual periodicity and seeks to collect information directly from citizens through surveys and analysis of service invoices.
«The study is multisectoral in nature and collects data related to the telecommunications, audiovisual, energy, postal and transport markets, among others. The survey for this wave was conducted in the second quarter of 2024 and included 5,307 households and 9,016 individuals. This tool provides extensive and diverse information, and allows the CNMC to better understand the point of view of consumers,” Competition detailed.
