RGG Studio and Amazon have announced that a TV series based on the video game series Like a Dragon: Yakuza. It will follow the events of the first game and will feature the well-known Kazuma Kiryu.
The announcement took place at a press conference at Hotel Gajoen Tokyo. At the moment there is no trailer available, but just below you can see the poster of the TV series published on Twitter.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza will include six episodes and is directed by Masaharu Take, best known for the drama series The Naked Director. Produced in Japan, the series stars the hugely popular Japanese stage actor Ryoma Takeuchi in the role of Kazuma Kiryu.
The live-action series is based on an original screenplay loosely inspired by the first game in the series, Yakuza, from 2005. It will be set primarily in the entertainment district of Kamurochobased on those from the games, and will follow Kiryu and three of his childhood friends across two time periods, 1995 and 2005.
The protagonist Kiryu he is described in the show’s press release as a “fearsome and unrivaled Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty and humanity”, and the story will deal with the repercussions of his actions across the two time periods. Takeuchi said the show will include “intense fight scenes.” In the video game, hand-to-hand combat is at the center of the gameplay, so we can expect intense fist fights and maybe even some more over the top scenes.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza (not to be confused with the video game Yakuza: Like a Dragon) will be available on Amazon Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide, released in two batches on October 24 and November 1, 2024.
