«From the first moment the people at Telefónica got going. First to check that all our team and their families were okay and immediately to make ourselves available to the authorities and emergency services to restore service to affected areas (…) Today we can say that a large part of what was affected has returned to work,” he said. Along these lines, the president of Telefónica has thanked the company’s workers for their dedication.

«There are moments that define us as people, as citizens, as a company or as a society. Moments that test us and demand that we respond. Moments in which we cannot remain indifferent.
What happened in Valencia, the dimension of the disaster, the impact on the lives of so many people, what is still being suffered there is something that requires us to react as people, as citizens and as a company. And we are doing it from the first moment.
The flood severely affected our service. Our fixed and mobile infrastructure suffered a severe impact. More than 250 base stations, several nodes in our network, several fiber exchanges and part of the fiber network itself were affected or directly destroyed by DANA.
From the first moment the people at Telefónica got going. First to check that all our team and their families were safe and immediately to make ourselves available to the authorities and emergency services to restore service in the affected areas.
Aware that communication is always essential but especially in such extreme situations, our teams, taking extreme security, worked tirelessly to recover the service and today we can say that a large part of what was affected has returned to working order.
I cannot find words to express the gratitude and pride I feel towards all of them and towards the entire company that has been launched to channel the feeling of solidarity that invades us.
The work of our Foundation, our volunteers, and all the people at Telefónica once again speaks for itself and adds a new chapter to the book of honor of our history.
There are moments that define us and without a doubt this is one of those moments. There is much left to do and we will do it because there are many people suffering and they deserve that we respond with the best of us.
We have to restore service and go further. Because it’s our way of being. It’s part of our history. People serving people. People who want to make our world more humane. We are needed and we cannot fail.
Thank you all for your commitment to people. Thank you for what you have done so far. I dare to ask you to continue because there is much to do and we do not know how to remain indifferent. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.«
