Alone in the Dark he only received the usual one in the last few hours analyses technique of Digital Foundry, but as they say in these cases: better late than never. Also because the in-depth analysis reveals interesting details related to the remake by Pieces Interactive.
Available from March 20th on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series reproduce the features of David Harbor and Jodie Comeralso using volumetric lights and a predetermined global lighting system in order to give certain environments a peculiar atmosphere.
On PS5 and Xbox Series two different graphics modes: one aiming for 4K and 30 fps, the other aiming for 1440p at 60 fps. In both cases a dynamic scaler is used which, however, does not fall much below these average values, while on Xbox Series S the pixel count drops significantly, down to just 450p in 60 fps mode.
Between ups and downs
Exactly as described in our review of Alone in the Dark, the technical sector of the remake moves between ups and downs, offering some sequences of undoubted impact as well as several naiveties which, apparently, are also and above all reflected on the performance, never truly constant regardless of the resolution.
Despite the obvious compromises that must be accepted to play on certain platforms, Digital Foundry's final opinion is positive: “As a revival of such an important game, Alone in the Dark has a surprising charm”, we read in the article. “It boasts a great atmosphere thanks to the meticulous details of the scenario, if you are able to accept its critical points.”
