Anis Rahmani, whose real name is Muhammad Moghadam, was prosecuted, especially on charges of “misuse in bad faith of the funds of the Al-Atheer Press Company” of the An-Nahar Group, “violating the legislation regulating money and exchange”, “exploiting influence and state agents to obtain undeserved benefits” and “false declaration.” According to the same source.
The court also fined Al-Atheer Press 12 million dinars (approximately 88 thousand euros) with a compensation of 10 million dinars (more than 73 thousand euros) in favor of the public treasury.
Rahmani was convicted in March 2021 on appeal in another case, to three years in prison on charges of illegal recording and broadcasting in October 2018 of a telephone call he made with an officer in the Algerian intelligence service.
Also, on October 15, 2020, the owner of the Al-Nahar group was sentenced to six months in prison for defamation in another case in which the director of Al-Shorouk newspaper Yassin Fadil pursued him.
Al-Nahar TV was launched in 2012, but it was accused of being targeting opponents of the “regime” of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was forced to resign in 2019 under pressure from the army and the popular movement and died in September 2021.
