A close encounter
Alex Marquez’s overtaking of Enea Bastianini it was observed with a magnifying glass by the race commissioners. The Spaniard forcefully entered the inside of the Italian, forcing him to go onto the green of Turn 2. The stewards decided to sanction Bastianini with a Long Lap Penaltysending him into a rage, so much so that he deliberately did not want to serve the penalty.
Alex Marquez replies
In post-match interviews Bastianini complained that he had been kicked out by his colleague and that he didn’t deserve the LLP. Alex Marquez wanted to respond in kind to the Italian, to the microphones of Sky Sports: “With Enea I don’t know what happened, he wasn’t even able to do a Long Lap and that says it all. I got over it, there was no contact or anything and I honestly don’t know what he’s complaining about.”
Alex Marquez – who then finished the race in seventh place – then concluded: “Enea went long and knows that if we go long in Turn 2, then we have to lose a second until T3. If you can’t do it, they give you a Long Lap. But I don’t think there was anything wrong, neither on my part nor on his part.”
