The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center reported yesterday that astronauts Abdullah Al Hammadi and Saleh Al Ameri are preparing for the first Emirati space simulation mission in November.
He pointed out that the two astronauts are currently completing sports exercises in Russia, and others on docking of vehicles with the International Space Station, as well as conducting exercises on driving an explorer on the moon, in addition to psychological tests, medical examinations, and Russian language tests.
Abdullah Al Hammadi and Saleh Al Ameri are the first Emirati astronauts to participate in the Emirates Space Simulation Project (Mission No. 1), as part of the international scientific research program at the unique ground station “Sirius” 20/21, which extends for eight months, in the ground experimental complex. , at the Institute of Medical and Biomedical Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, and their mission will center around studying the effects of human physiological isolation and team dynamics to help prepare for long-term space exploration missions.
The center chose Abdullah Al Hammadi and Saleh Al Ameri from among 172 applicants to participate in the mission, and the selection process for candidates for the mission relied on several factors. Of the candidates who applied for the job, the list of preferred occupations for candidates included physicians, medical researchers, physiologists, biologists, life support specialists, and IT and electronics experts.
