Al-Burhan, when addressing today those affected by torrential rains and floods in the Al-Manaqil area in Al-Jazirah state, southeast of Sudan, affirmed that the state, government and people, stand with those affected by the torrents and rains in the state, and “the government’s keenness to provide the necessary support to them in a way that contributes to redressing the damage caused to them.”
The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council inspected the areas affected by rain and torrential rains in the White Nile and Gezira states, and examined the extent of the damage suffered by citizens in their agriculture and homes.
According to a statement to inform the Transitional Sovereign Council, Al-Burhan announced the formation of a national committee headed by council member Taher Hajar, to follow up on providing the necessary aid and support to those affected, and a subcommittee from the governors of the White Nile and Al Jazeera and the security committees in the two states, to inspect the banks and check on their work in an optimal manner.
He also directed to treat canals, clean canals, and compensate citizens who have suffered damage to their property, pointing to the government’s announcement of an internal and external alert campaign to ward off the effects of torrential rains and floods, so that the area returns to its initial path.
Al-Burhan also directed the Armed Forces Corps of Engineers to continue the engineering effort and move its equipment to construct ferries on the Al-Manaqil road, with the aim of delivering food to those affected by torrential rains, praising the “great efforts of the people of the state to confront and ward off the effects of torrential rains and floods in the region.”
Sudan was recently subjected to a wave of torrential torrents, which swept through more than 60 villages in the center, east and north of the country, killing about 80 people and destroying tens of thousands of homes.
Also, about 50 percent of the agricultural areas that local residents depend on for their daily lives were inundated with water.
