Air transport | SAS cancels 1,700 flights as a result of the strike

According to estimates, the cancellations will not affect the demand for the company’s flights.

Swedish and Denmark’s national airline SAS has canceled 1,700 flights between September and October following a two-week strike. The figure corresponds to four percentage points of the company’s air traffic. The matter was reported by Reuters.

The company said on Friday that passengers have been informed about the matter and replacement flights have been arranged for them.

“In addition to the strike, the cancellations are due to delays in deliveries and other factors. According to estimates, this will not affect the demand for flights,” says the SAS representative.

SAS told last week on a financing package agreed with US private equity firm Apollo Global Management to help the airline avoid bankruptcy.

SAS applied for support a day after the strike began in July.

The Swedish government has refused to support the company financially, while Denmark has said that it will offset part of SAS’s debts and offer financial support if the company also finds a financier from the private sector.
