At the end of October, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan overthrew the Sudanese civilian government of Hamdok and took power himself. Since the ouster of President Omar Bashir in 2019, Burhan has been the country’s most important leader.
Mediators report on Sunday that there is a political agreement between al-Burhan and Hamdok. Hamdok would return to power and the political prisoners would be released.
After the coup of 25 October, large protests broke out in Sudan. The army knocked it down with a heavy hand. At least 40 people were killed.
