Dhe special episode of the SWR podcast “Sack Reis” with the journalist Melina Borčak, recorded in mid-August, was intended to serve as a substantive review of a previous episode in which a young woman had denied the genocide in the Bosnian war. But it turned out to be a communication disaster.
He has since deleted both episodes. It is deleted “so that we don’t cause any further injuries or (re)traumatization in people,” said the SWR. On Twitter, Melina Borčak reacted outraged to the SWR announcement. Nobody asked for the episode to be deleted and this was done without asking her. The SWR informed her by email seven minutes before the announcement of the deletion that they would comment on the two episodes of the podcast.
In the special episode mentioned, SWR invited the Bosnian journalist Melina Borčak to share her criticism of the episode “Shortly before war? The Fragile Peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina” and talk about possible improvements to the podcast. The conversation between Borčak, moderator Stephanie Haiber and editor Karin Feltes got completely out of hand. Of 70 factual errors that Borčak identified in the podcast episode at the end of March, she was only able to name one. The attempt at processing failed. The SWR apologized.
Now that SWR has removed the episodes, Borčak decided to upload the special episode on their website. She wants to ensure that the two podcast episodes and her criticism of genocide denial remain understandable. “This is MY recording of the special episode, which was recorded with the knowledge and consent of SWR,” writes Borčak. “Think. Nobody is allowed to delete them.”
