Dhe VfL Osnabrück clearly won the replay of the 3rd football league at MSV Duisburg on Wednesday evening in a thrilling duel with 6:3 (2:1) and moved up to fourth place. The hosts, on the other hand, had to accept a setback after the 1-0 away win at SV Wehen and are still in acute danger of relegation in 16th place.
The game, which was initially interrupted by referee Nicolas Winter on December 19 and later called off, was under special observation because the Osnabrück player Aaron Opoku had previously been allegedly racially insulted by a Duisburg spectator. In January, however, the public prosecutor’s office in Duisburg dropped the investigation they had initiated on suspicion of insulting a spectator. A sufficient suspicion could therefore not be justified.
Both teams wanted to set an example in front of 750 spectators in the Duisburg Arena and wore special jerseys. On the Osnabrück dress it said “Bend over”, on the MSV “Integration, respect, tolerance”.
In terms of sport, the guests quickly found their way. Osnabrück coach Daniel Scherning had a good hand and nominated two new players for the starting XI in Sebastian Klaas and Bu-Muaka Sinkala, who gave his team the lead twice (8th/27th minute). Sven Köhler (47th) and Marc Heider (52nd) increased to 4:1, Lukas Kunze scored to 5:3 (81st) and Felix Higl to 6:3. Moritz Stoppelkamp scored twice for Duisburg (13’/62′) and Aziz Bouhaddouz (71′).
