Culiacan, Sinaloa. After becoming one of the most powerful athletes in the history of Exathlon Mexicogetting a close second place in the third season, Heber Gallegos He returned to the beaches of the Dominican Republic to relive this adventure and confesses to DEBATE that there were several factors that made him return, initially in the fifth season.
“We had a sports injury to the leg before entering the program, there was a muscle tear and practically that left us out for the selection for the Olympic Games and obviously for several competitions in Mexico. Having lost that classification we were left flying in a matter of plans, so I was seeing many comments from the fans, from the red fanatic, who went to support and already in talks with my partner we came to the conclusion of going to support this red cause and it was the reason, having lost the Olympic qualifier due to injury, and the other factor for the public more than anything, “he says by telephone.
Tough competition
Facing a strong blue team in season five, Heber Gallegos He managed to be the last man of the red team, resisting a tough competition until the semifinal and placed third for men. But TV Azteca was preparing an extraordinary sixth season, titled all-star, and where the champions and finalists of the five seasons would meet. Heber, of course, received the invitation from him and heeded the call.
While the public saw a downcast athlete in the fifth season, in the current competition there was a very noticeable mood change. “I was in the third season since it began, so I began to meet the athletes from day one, we began to create that harmony, and it is totally different from entering the adventure when it already started. Then (in the fifth season) I start to know the members, but it’s not the same as knowing them from the beginning. There was no displeasure with them, not at all, but it was a little difficult for me to fit in with them”.
The also called Ojinaga Lightning He says that fatigue and frustration also added. “I did not enter the fifth season in my best physical shape, due to the injury that left me out of the selection teams. Obviously I wanted to enter with the level of the third season, at the top, being a power of the red team and not achieving certain points at times like frustration, that adds to the mood to decline.
“And already for the final straight I had a very tough competition, a quite hard and cardiac elimination duel with Tony, a fellow adventurer, who reached the maximum number of races in one night; and the next day having to join the battle to being able to defend the girls from the red team, Zudi and Nataly, me the only red man against three blue men, was so much wear and tear that my body already felt it, my mind too”, he narrates.
For the brief, but demanding all-star, Pato Araujo, Heliud Pulido and Aristeo Cázares joined the red team, which helped them run less and rest a little more. “Apart in Exathlon All Starseeing familiar faces or people with whom I had lived before, and new energies like Pato, Aristeo and Ana, who had not had the joy of sharing this adventure with them, because new vibes always recharge you emotionally.
good coexistence
Although in some Azteca Uno programs or even their rivals from the blue team claimed that the red team was divided, as in the last weeks of the fourth season, Heber Gallegos deny this version. “Coexistence totally fine. I had the thought that since they are all champions, they are all finalists, it may lend itself to internal clashes or scenarios arise in which one is not satisfied because each one is going to bring their ideas, maybe there will be some lawsuits, but no”.
“Obviously, each one has a different point of view. I said ‘let’s see if Pato can accept some advice from me, he’s a champion’ or ‘let’s see if Aristeo can accept a message from me, he’s a champion’. Always in any type of job , all kinds of sports, there are going to be those kinds of scenarios, and obviously they have to be clarified because otherwise they will accumulate.
Unfortunately, the 29-year-old athlete became the fourth eliminated from all-star, beating in a circuit against his teammates Ana Lago and Heliud Pulido. “Obviously, when you arrive at the ceremony and you see the shot, you say ‘this shot is mine’ or ‘I’m bad with this shot.’ For example, in the third season I was struggling with the cork shot, and in the fifth the hoop shot was added. When I saw the hoop shot I said ‘hijuesú'”.
“Personally, what distinguishes me a lot is the speed of the circuits, I had to arrive before to take advantage of my shots and have the chance of being wrong to quickly correct the aim, but unfortunately I have had tired days”, he says about his last participation .
To this, he added fatigue and not being a good day. “Just as suddenly it happens in everyday life that you feel that it is not your day, and as much as you want to correct and see the bright side it does not come out, this time it was that day for me. Missing, thinking about my partner, my family, did not help.
Thunder He trusts that one of his red teammates, especially Heliud, can be in the final, and from the opposing team he would like to see David Juárez, of whom he says “he already has a doctorate in exathlon”, joking for being the participant with the longest time in the reality show.
