Doug Bowser, president of Nintendo of America, also harshly criticizes the situation of Activision Blizzard.
It’s a Activision Blizzard more and more alone the one that is returned to us by the various news coming from the industry and above all it is a Bobby Kotick increasingly “surrounded”. The CEO of the company, accused of having been aware of harassment and discrimination for years and of having perpetrated it himself, is taking hard hits from the most important giants in the industry.
First PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, then Xbox gaming head Phil Spencer and now too Nintendo joined the chorus expressing their positions through an internal email written by the president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, and later confirmed by a spokesman for the great N.
The tones used by Bowser are in line with those of his colleagues and now all three console manufacturers have openly united against the current situation of Activision Blizzard and the harassment and discrimination scandals. Here are the highlights of Bowser’s email:
“Along with all of you, I am following the latest developments in the Activision Blizzard situation regarding sexual harassment and toxicity within the company. I find this shocking and disturbing news. It goes against all my values and against the values, beliefs and policies of Nintendo “.
Bowser goes on to point out how Nintendo is committed to creating an open and inclusive workplace where everyone is welcome and even goes so far as to confirm that there will be room for action against Activision. The tenor of the shares is unclear but the position of the large N seems rather clear-cut.
Bowser confirmed that Nintendo is working with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) to strengthen positions against workplace harassment and abuse: “Every company in the industry must create an environment where everyone is respected and treated fairly and where everyone understands the consequences they will face by not behaving this way.”
The consequences Bowser talks about seem clear in this case: Kotick and all the management guilty of harassment, discrimination and turning away from victims’ testimonies must be condemned and removed from the industry.
