Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said that relations between the UAE and Turkey “can achieve many of the hopes and aspirations of the two peoples, and enhance the two countries’ regional standing.”
He added, “We can double the trade relations between the two countries, and work more to strengthen our partnership around the world, and Africa is an excellent model for this, both in the areas of development and commercial partnership and creating the best conditions for Emirati and Turkish industries and companies.”
He explained that one of the sectors that his country is interested in, and which is working to strengthen the relationship with Turkey, is renewable energy, saying, “Not only because it is successful in commercial terms, but because it is of great importance to our countries that want to reduce carbon emissions.”
The UAE foreign minister continued, “I must pay tribute to the increase in the volume of trade between the two countries, which reached 50 billion dirhams, and achieved an 82 percent increase in two years, and this is an encouraging increase that came due to the will and hard work of the two governments.”
He added, “I am happy with this latest momentum in relations, not only commercial, economic and political, but also cultural, which was evident through your participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.”
When asked about the areas of investment that the UAE and Turkey are working to promote, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed said: “There is great interest from the UAE in the field of energy in general. We talked about some ideas, especially in the field of renewable energy… And the UAE company (Masdar) has an interest in looking for Opportunities in Turkey, whether at the level of companies and the private sector, or with the Turkish government.
He added, “Masdar is a leader today in providing the cheapest production of solar energy in the world,” noting that there is “great interest from Emirati companies in Turkey as well as in the field of ports and railways.”
He continued, “Of course, Turkey is a very important country with great capabilities in the field of tourism. It is a vital sector, and we hope that we will look for opportunities to strengthen this relationship.”
He also touched on cooperation in the field of health, saying: “Covid-19 was an opportunity for all of us to realize that there is more work to be done in the field of health, so the pharmaceutical production sector will witness interest on our part, and investment opportunities will be sought in Turkey.”
And the Emirati foreign minister noted that “the interest is not focused on working in Turkey only, but working with Turkey in other countries, such as Africa, Latin America, and Central and South Asia.”
