San Juan.- A woman was shot to death in San Juan by her ex-partner, who later took his own life in a park, the femicide occurred in Puerto Rico despite the fact that a state of emergency for gender-based violence came into effect.
According to the Police report, a telephone call was received through the 9-1-1 Emergency System, which alerted the Police of a dead person in Barrio Obrero, in San Juan.
The authorities came to the site and The body of a woman was found in the residence.who was identified as 46-year-old Sugeny Concepción Quezada.

Shortly after, in the surroundings of the Barbosa Park in San Juan, the body of a man was found, identified as Francisco Alberto Polanco Polanco, 33 years old.
The investigation indicates that Polanco went to the aforementioned residence and shot Quezada, to later go to the park and commit suicide.
According to the Puerto Rico Gender Equality Observatory, So far this year, a total of 62 femicides have been registered on the islandbetween direct and indirect, of which 14 were classified as intimate.
Intimate femicides are murders committed by a man with whom the victim has or had had an intimate relationship or bond, or a friend or acquaintance who tried to have a relationship (sentimental or sexual) with the victim and was rejected.
Two days ago, the Puerto Rico Gender Equality Observatory published a revision to its 2021 femicide report to include five that had not been counted at the end of last year, raising the total number of cases from 53 to 58.
The escalation in murders of women on the island occurs despite the fact that Governor Pedro Pierluisi extended this year the state of emergency due to gender violence, which had come into force in January 2021.
