The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 47-year-old woman in Badalona for faking her own kidnapping and demanding a ransom of 6,000 euros. The arrested woman invented her abduction, got her husband to send part of the required capital and used the money to play bingo.
The events date back to the night of October 4 when the husband of the alleged victim reported at the Badalona police station that he had received several calls from his wife and she had informed him that she was kidnapped and that the criminals were demanding a reward of 6,000 euros to be released safely. It so happens that at the time the events took place, the husband was hospitalized and had no contact with his wife.
After carrying out different checks, the Badalona agents contacted the Central Kidnapping and Extortion Unit of the Catalan police to take charge of the investigation. This reviewed the case and reported the facts to the court.
The husband paid part of the ransom and the mossos verified that the woman had directly accessed this money and was playing bingo. It was the police who located her in a gambling room spending part of her supposed ransom. The agents arrested the woman for simulation of crime and extortion.
It is not the first time that the investigators of this unit have encountered fictitious kidnappings and the mossos warn that there are several complaints “for kidnapping where the victim claims to be or to have been held by strangers, either to obtain money to face debts or meet their needs ”.
The detainee, after testifying at the police station, was released while waiting for the judge to call her to testify.
