Surprising words about the Game Pass from Phil Spencer.
Xbox Game Pass it is undoubtedly a success, which has been reconfirmed in recent weeks allowing subscribers to get their hands on both Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite since day one. A service of this level has attracted millions of fans but has also given way, to those who occasionally approach this way, to play a vast library of titles, many of which are of the highest level.
Phil Spencer is certainly happy with all this, but he made some surprising (Edge) statements, focusing on the diversification of the Microsoft offering:
“Do I want or imagine everyone on Xbox to be a Game Pass subscriber? No. I want people to make their choice. Some people want to buy all the games we distribute and create their own library“.
Spencer also responded in some way to the criticisms made by Jim Ryan and Shawn Layden about the long-term sustainability of the Game Pass:
“Subscriptions give you a good continuous revenue stream“Spencer told Edge.”And that’s an important thing for any business, other than the spikes you’ll get in some retail releases. Business does not depend on a number. The number of retail sales, the number of console sales, Windows involvement, Game Pass, xCloud involvement … it’s really all of these things coming together.“
In short, the sustainability of an element is not given by its very existence, but by all the gears of the Microsoft mechanism. There is no doubt that in recent years, the Redmond house has been really busy.
