A thousand heads of cattle gathered this Saturday at the 43rd edition of the Lamasón Fair, which was held in the town of Quintanilla, and which had a “significant” presence of native breeds.
The event was attended by the Minister of Economy, Regional Financing, Treasury and European Funds and former mayor of the municipality, Luis Ángel Agüeros, promoter of the Fair in its current location and format during his time as councilor between the years 2011 to 2019.
Agüeros has highlighted that the main merit of this concentration of cattle is that All the cattle come from the valley itself, which makes it the fair that brings together the most heads of cattle from a single municipality.
Therefore, At the event, more than a thousand heads of cattle could be seen, with a predominance of the Tudanca breed, which accredits the Lamasón Valley as a “reference” for the breeding of this breed throughout the Autonomous Community. as stated by the Government in a press release.

The day, which began with the entry of the cattle to the Heras fairgrounds, brought together numerous ranchers and visitors throughout the morning.
The fair has been completed with the awards ceremony, the traditional ‘passá’ through the main street of this town, as well as folkloric performances and a great pilgrimage.
MATIENZO FAIR
On the other hand, also this Saturday, the Matienzo Fair that has brought together about 600 animals including cows, mares, goats, donkeys, chickens and sheep from 40 farms in the region.
Organized by the cultural association ‘La Cuevona’, with the support of the Government of Cantabria and the Ruesga City Council, the fair took place at the Las Huertas farm, in the center of the town, where, in addition to the livestock exhibition, They have been able to visit different stands and enjoy performances.
The Minister of Rural Development, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, María Jesús Susinos, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Youth, Family and Equality, Begoña Gómez del Río, attended this fair.
