Investigators have found that the detainee had frequent contact with members of terrorist groups in the Middle East.
Agents of the National Police have arrested an individual of Maghreb origin in the province of Tarragona for his alleged relationship with the cell dismantled in May in Bolaños de Calatrava (Ciudad Real). This Friday morning it has passed at the disposal of the head of the Central Court of Instruction number 2 of the National Court, decreeing its entry into prison.
The detainee had been consuming extensive jihadist content for more than two years, from those suitable for committing terrorist actions, to others of extreme crudeness where executions directed by DAESH were visualized, as reported by the National Police in a statement in which it has communicated that it was “ strongly radicalized ‘.
According to the National Police, the detainee followed the same guidelines for action as those detained in Ciudad Real, “aimed at attracting new followers for the terrorist organization DAESH.” He is accused of participation in the crimes of self-indoctrination and active indoctrination.
In addition to continued consumption of terrorist material, investigators have found that the detainee had frequent contact with members of terrorist groups in the Middle East.
The operation, carried out last Wednesday, has been developed by the General Information Commission (CGI), and the Provincial Information Brigades of Barcelona, Tarragona and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, under the coordination of the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court and the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number Two.
The investigation began as a result of an operation carried out on May 20, 2020, in which the National Police brought two people to justice in the town of Bolaños de Calatrava, both recently convicted of terrorist indoctrination.
The Police pointed out that the Ciudad Real cell defined itself as “the invisible soldiers of DAESH.” Its leader had entered Spain clandestinely after fleeing Morocco, where he had formed a first jihadist cell that had been neutralized.
Contents to commit attacks
The now detainee had few personal relationships on the physical plane, and he devoted much of his time to the consumption of jihadist content, “from those suitable for committing terrorist actions, to other extremely crude where executions directed by DAESH were visualized”, according to the Policeman.
During the investigation, it was found that the detainee professed “intense pro-jihadi activity”, which included not only continued consumption of terrorist material but also frequent contact with members of terrorist groups in the Middle East.
In addition, the agents verified the virtual relationships that he exercised, with the aim of attracting and indoctrinating new followers, making all kinds of jihadist content available to them.
This operation has had the collaboration of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST) of Morocco and the Mossos d’Esquadra.
