The regional government participates in a European project that will use Big Data and the data collected by different partners to generate strategies in the face of adverse climatic situations, such as droughts or torrential rains. The project, called Gov4Water, has started in the Italian city of Foligno and will be developed over the next four years within the framework of the Interreg Europe programme.
During the opening day, the general director of Water, José Sandoval, pointed out that “the Region is an international benchmark in efficient water management and we must continue to advance in the design of strategies that allow us to anticipate and deal with possible situations of crises caused by the effects of climate change.
As explained by sources from the regional Executive, the Region has the role in this project of sharing its experience in how to address water scarcity. Sandoval highlighted that “in our Region all types of water resources are used, both conventional and alternative, which will surely serve as a reference for the rest of the partners, since although the water shortage is beginning to be noticed in other regions “Our situation is more extreme.” He emphasized that “everything possible has already been done in the Region to compensate for the deficit, so we can be a door to the future for the rest of the project partners in terms of management of adverse climate phenomena.”
“We can be a door to the future for the rest of the project partners,” emphasizes the general director of Water.
The project will run until March 2028. In addition to the Region of Murcia, it has the participation of the Estonian Ministry of Environment and the regional authorities of Lodzkie (Poland), Vas County (Hungary), West Flanders (Belgium) and Loire -Britain, among others.
