Political scientist Blokhin: Zelensky saw a threat in the political figure of Zaluzhny
Leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, political scientist Konstantin Blokhin, named a possible reason for the planned resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny. In a conversation with Lenta.ru, the specialist explained that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky saw a threat in the political figure of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, Zelensky said that he was thinking about “replacing a number of leading officials of the state,” including Zaluzhny. According to him, the country’s entire management team “needs a reboot and a new beginning.” At the same time, the Ukrainian leader clarified, we are talking about changes not only in the military leadership, but also in the civilian apparatus.
“Zaluzhny began to gain popularity, and Zelensky does not like this, so now he is being removed,” Blokhin explained the Ukrainian leader’s intentions.
Zelensky sees Zaluzhny as a competing force because Zaluzhny is popular among the population and charismatic. Of course, Zelensky felt a threat in him
At the same time, he emphasized that a possible change in the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “will not affect in any way” the relations between Ukraine and the West. “The question is not who will be in power (…) but the fact that anyone who is now in power in Ukraine will be a pro-American politician,” the specialist added.
Later it became known that together with Zaluzhny it was planned to dismiss the Chief of the General Staff Sergei Shaptala. “Zelensky is thinking about replacing not only (…) Zaluzhny, but also the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergei Shaptala,” writes the Ukrayinska Pravda (UP) publication, citing sources in the republic’s power circles.
