Cristina López breaks records in the regional bank of La Arrixaca, with 213 liters in four months
Before the birth of her son Ian, on March 8, and in the prenatal classes taught by Pilar Juliá, a midwife at the Abarán and Blanca health centers, Cristina López was struck by a poster that read ‘Every drop of milk saves lives’. This phrase induced her to be a donor. She spoke with her midwife and contacted Almudena Pernas, from the Regional Maternal Milk Bank, to carry out tests and verify that her milk was suitable. «Since my son was not hooked, he gave him breast milk and a bottle, until I realized that he produced more than the child drank. That’s why I started freezing bags », she says.
The amount of milk was such that he ended up donating 15 liters a week for four months. In total, 213 liters that have fed 66 newborns. This beautiful and altruistic action has meant the delivery of a certificate of appreciation from the Milk Bank of the Region of Murcia, in which he is thanked for “the great effort and generosity”. With this gesture, “you have contributed to improving the prognosis of premature babies or babies with special needs, something that you should feel very proud of. On our behalf and on behalf of the babies and their families, thank you very much,” reads the recognition.
The case of Cristina López is unique in recent years in the Region of Murcia. From La Arrixaca they go to her home once a week to collect the bags of milk stored in frozen refrigerators. In her house there are 20 liters stored, plus another 25 in the house of her in-laws.
with family help
Cristina lives with her partner, Arturo Monxó Yelo, a 34-year-old native of Abarán, with whom she is full of praise. “We met in 2008 and his help is fundamental.” They have been living in rent in Blanca for four years, and they only have the family help that Cristina receives, of just 430 euros, in addition to that provided by his parents, who are abaraneros. Arturo used to work as a butcher, he is out of work and waiting for an operation.
Cristina is very proud and satisfied because “thanks to my milk rich in calcium and nutrients, many lives have been saved and many operations have been saved on children with very little weight.”
And it launches an awareness message “to those mothers who have enough milk reserves”, so that “they don’t throw it away and donate it to the Milk Bank, because that way they will save lives and make many people happy”.
