A 77-year-old man died tonight in Leganés in a fire in his home, according to a spokesperson for Emergencies 112 Community of Madrid. The Summa 112 doctors dispatched to the scene have confirmed the death of the man at the same place as the incident, after locating him inside the apartment in cardiorespiratory arrest, from which they have not been able to recover him after about 40 minutes of resuscitation maneuvers.
The fire broke out in a house located on the first floor of number 7 Chile Street in the Madrid municipality around 11:35 p.m. this Friday, the time at which neighbors alerted the emergency services.
Three fire crews from the Community of Madrid went to the scene, extinguished the fire and found the victim in a bedroom of the house, the only room in the house affected by the fire. “The door was closed, so the smoke has not reached the rest of the house,” comments the chief of fire service in a video distributed by Emergencies.
The man was unconscious and suffering from cardiorespiratory arrest. The firefighters themselves began the resuscitation maneuvers until the arrival, “shortly after,” of an ICU from Summa, which continued the maneuvers and confirmed his death after 40 minutes attempting to resuscitate him.
The troops have confined some of the neighbors in their homes and others have left their homes and gone down the stairs, despite which Summa 112 has not had to attend to any person intoxicated by smoke. The entire building has been ventilated by the troops, who have checked all the homes. Teams from the National Police, Leganés Municipal Police and local Civil Protection personnel have participated in the extinction and assistance work.
