The PP voted this Tuesday mistakenly in favor of a large number of Vox amendments to the administrative simplification law in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. The Vox amendments, among other issues, prohibit the use of Catalan in the public service and authorizes the construction of homes in areas of maximum environmental protectionin addition to being able to build in coastal easement areas, among other issues.
The administrative simplification law promoted by the PP aims streamline urban planning procedures and legalize homes built irregularly on rural land. Vox took the opportunity to introduce more than 30 amendments that, according to the Balearic Islands, proposed suppressing progress in the environment and the Catalan language, as well as going backwards in areas of equality and gender identity in education.
After the error, The deputy spokesperson of the PP, Marga Durán, has asked to repeat the vote but Vox has opposed. The Balearic Government, chaired by Marga Prohens, has already announced that it will approve a decree law to correct the error.
In statements to the media after the plenary session, the vice president of the Government, Antoni Costa, has announced that on the same day that the simplification law is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB), the Executive will approve a decree law so that these amendments do not enter in force.
