The purpose of the exhibition, says Professor Roda Peña, “Its purpose is to present a careful selection of the sculptural works carried out by Pedro Roldán on behalf of the brotherhoods of the capital of Seville.”
«Its absolute protagonist is Pedro Roldán, of whom This year we have been celebrating the fourth centenary of his birth, since he was baptized on January 14, 1624 in the font of the Sagrario parish in the capital of Seville,” highlights Professor Roda Peña.
Pedro Roldán, as José Rosa points out, “was the most outstanding Sevillian personality of the second half of the 17th century.” and one of the stellar figures of Spanish baroque statuary, he carried out numerous commissions for the brotherhoods of Seville, for penance, glory, sacramentals or for the blessed souls of purgatory.
In the Velázquez room, pieces by Pedro Roldán are exhibited, although without including titular images of the brotherhoods. A notable exception is the Virgen de la Antigua y Siete Dolores, coming from the parish of La Magdalena, which at one time was the owner of a corporation together with the Lord of Health, currently in the brotherhood of La Candelaria and leaves every Holy Tuesday.

The exhibition stands out for the abundance of pieces such as couples and even a quartet of full-size passion angels, in addition to several sets of posters typical of Holy Week. Among the most unique elements A valuable historical document from the brotherhood of La O is included, where the payment for the image of Jesús Nazareno is recorded.
AlsoAn Immaculate Conception stands out from the sacramental of the Magdalene, a painting of the Virgin of Antigua and Seven Sorrowsand the front curtain of the old pallium passage of the Virgen del Valle.
«Some of these works have never been exhibited. and several are added for the first time to the list of works attributed on grounds to Pedro Roldán as Saint Peter of the mystery of the Sacred Entry into Jerusalem of the brotherhood of Love and the angels who give light to the image of Santa Marta”, José Roda Peña, curator of the exhibition, pointed out.
