This is the new scam of ‘false electricity and gas reviewers’: the Mossos d’Esquadra have already warned about it on their social networks ahead of Christmas

During the Christmas period – or in the weeks before – scams increase considerably. And criminals take advantage of the distraction of staff on these dates marked in red on the calendar to launch targeted attacksespecially to older people.

This time, certain individuals pose as false electricity or gas merchants and threaten to cut it off if they do not pay immediately. In general, act by telephone, passing by a supply company that asks for a multitude of personal and banking information to then take our money from the bank or carry out an operation.

Now, They also appear at home with the same way of acting. And this is where the Mossos d’Esquadra. They usually wear a yellow vest or carry fake identification, posing, of course, as staff of a supply company.

Once inside the homewith the excuse to do some type of weekly review, they steal. The victim profile is usually people over 60 years old, who are more vulnerable and tend to be more clueless than the rest of the general population.

This type of scamit should be noted, is being carried out in a large percentage of autonomous communities of Spanish territory. That is, without preference for any particular area, so we must be very careful and be very sure of who enters our house.

• Do not open the door to any gas or electricity inspector who has not previously requested through the supply company..
• Ask the inspector to identify himself with the corresponding company card.
• Reviews are not paid on the spot, in cash or by card.. The service is charged on the next gas bill.
• If the scam has already been reportedthe complaint must be made in writing or verbally before an agent of the authority.
