The students of Benetússer, one of the municipalities affected by Dana, were scheduled to return to the classrooms today, following the guidelines established by the educational inspection. However, after the death of an operator who was checking a roof that collapsed in a Massanassa center, the City Council of this town has suspended from activity pending a “document” by the Ministry of Education to certify compliance with the “necessary security guarantees.”
This municipality has five centers that were affected by the flood. In at least three of them, work has been done against the clock to meet the deadlines established by the Education inspectors. These called for classes to be resumed today.more than three weeks after the tragedy, after a meeting held on November 12 between Education representatives and school directors.
In the case of this municipality this has not been made effective. Last night the City Council released a statement in which it stated that, given the lack of a document certifying safety conditionshad decided not to resume activity. A decision made jointly with those responsible for the educational centers and which is not general within the area affected by the catastrophe of October 29.
In Alfafar, a town adjacent to the previous one and also seriously damaged, there are up to four educational facilities operating. These are three subsidized centers and the La Fila public school. In addition, it is expected that tomorrow the one located in the Orba neighborhood will also follow the same path, having arranged barracks in his courtyard where children can receive lessons. The students of the April 25 Secondary Education Institute (IES) receive classes online, something that does not happen with those of the IES María Carbonell in Benetússer.
The decision to reopen in Alfafar arrives after up to three revisionsaccording to sources from the City Council told ABC. A first made by members of the Civil Protection of Malaga. Another by the architects of the Ministry of Education together with the municipal officials and a last one by the City Council technicians, made this morning to reassure the directors of the centers.
A disparity in the return to classrooms that accounts for the different circumstances they are facing the towns of ground zero to try to return to normality.
