The most famous musical duo of brothers in Spanish music celebrates half a century of experience in 2024
This Sunday, the Cornella City Council recognized the brothers José and David Muñoz Calvo, the duo Estopa, with a statue that recreates the two singers in the municipality’s Plaza Catalunña for their 25 years of musical career.
The hometown of the artists has celebrated the event ‘Cornellà sings to Estopa’, presented by the also Cornell native and radio host, Tony Aguilarwhich featured an unexpected performance by the Estopa brothers and in which a statue representing both of them playing on a bench in the square was unveiled.
“We are very proud to have been born in Cornella and we take Cornellà anywhere,” said José Muñoz, speaking to the media from the square where the duo began playing and singing with their friends 25 years ago.
As reported by the City Council in a statement, the act of recognition of the council is added to other local distinctions to Estopa, such as the Ciutat de Cornellà Honor Award 2005, or the appointment of the two singers as criers of the municipality’s festivities in 2007.

Estopa has received this 2024 the Waves Award for musical career and the Altaveu 2024 Special Award for his 25 years of career, which are added to the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2023 and the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2022.
