Ailín Pérez It is a figure that goes out, voluntarily, from the normal. The mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has emerged on the UFC scene with four consecutive wins, something that has allowed her to position herself at number 13 in the bantamweight division. Until then everything is normal, despite the difficulty. But, in addition, she is a single mother, lives off her social networks and has established in ‘Only Fans’ her way of making ‘real’ money beyond what she earns inside the most famous octagon in the world. An unusual media profile that has allowed him to attract the attention of UFC fans.
After her victory in Paris, Ailín Pérez lands in Spain to take a “little break” and that is when she visits the ABC newsroom to talk about her present and future. “I feel like I’m the most important fighter today, not just in the UFC, right?” the Argentine begins by saying. «It is because of the noise I am making worldwide. I have a responsibility to bring the UFC to Argentina and I am going to make it a reality for all the fans. “I feel like the leader of the Argentine team within the UFC, I am the only one in a ranking,” says the fighter.
If the fighter born in Zárate and based in Miami stands out in something, it is in her ‘trashtalk’ or what is the same, the psychological battle outside the cage, making noise through words. And it shows. «We are somewhat experiencing, especially in this division, a reign of certain fighters who do not promote themselves very well or who do not really have that interest from the fans. Some tell me that I lack humility, but I tell them that it is the confidence I have from training all day, that they can rate me however they want,” he points out. «As they say in Argentina, take it from who it comes from. I think they lack confidence,” he adds.
Ailín Pérez, who has wanted to exploit her marketing professionally, so much so that she has become a controversial character in the world, assures that she handles any type of criticism in this regard very well. «I believe that this is for life, not only within the UFC, whoever gets angry, loses. If you are not prepared to lose or to be angry, you simply cannot continue moving forward, because when I speak everyone is waiting to see if I keep my word or not and that is also a pressure that I put on myself. I said this and I have to work hard for myself,” explains the Argentine.
The bantamweight fighter believes she is on the “right path”, creating “too much noise”, and wants to continue climbing positions in the ranking to attack, sooner rather than later, the UFC belt. «I am going to name only one fighter, who is the one who is closest to me due to the fact that He is a legend and deserves to fight me: it’s Holly Holm. “It’s a fight that I always wanted,” says Ailín, regarding who could be her next opponent in the next challenge. “I think that, statistically, as fighters come without marketing, I can be a champion in three fights if I want it that way,” she says.
Finally, asked by ABC about Ilia Topuria (before she knocked out Max Holloway), Ailín Pérez assures that she has not been able to meet him and that now she is gradually getting closer to his figure. «I’m not a big fan of him, but now a lot of people mention him to me and I’m getting a little bit into his life. I like how he fights, I feel he has good things for the division. But other than that, it’s not a role that moves me. It doesn’t reach me,” concludes the Argentine.
