Sánchez: “If Feijóo wants to defend Mazón, he should not do so against the interests of Spain and Europe”

The President of the Government is optimistic about the outcome of the soap opera that keeps the election of Teresa Ribera as vice president of the European Commission in suspense but expressly singles out Feijóo for an attempted boycott that has also threatened to derail the formation of the next community executive. “Feijóo has every right to defend Mr. Mazón and his management of DANA. But it cannot do it against everything and everyone: against the state of the autonomies, calling into question what the powers are, against the interests of Spain and against the European Union itself.”

During his appearance before the press after the G20 summit held in Brazil, Pedro Sánchez went so far as to demand from the leader of the PP “restraint, responsibility and a minimum sense of state” after a political mess that he assured that no one understands in Brussels. “There is absolute disbelief in Europe about this attitude and not only among social democrats. National policy debates are not taken to Brussels. And much less to contaminate something as necessary as having a college of commissioners,” he noted.

The Spanish president has shown his confidence that the conversations held at the highest level with his European colleagues and with the President of the Commission herself, Úrsula Von der Leyen, will come to fruition and crystallize this Wednesday. “The negotiations are progressing and we hope they bear fruit soon,” he commented before asking all European political families to comply with what was agreed in the summer.

“Spain reached an agreement with two objectives: that it was a moderate and focused agreement with the three main pro-European families and that the best people were in the Government of Europe. And the Government of Spain takes one of its references, probably the best in climate change. And what I ask is that we all comply with the agreement we reached in the summer,” he claimed.

Questioned by the press about the latest maneuvers of Judge Peinado, who this Tuesday asked Begoña Gómez for information about her banking transactions and a certificate of her marriage with Pedro Sánchez, the president has insisted that the case will end up clarifying that his partner does not committed no irregularity. “Absolute tranquility and transparency. If you want to investigate my wife’s accounts, then perfect, it will be shown that she is a neat and honest woman. If the judge wants to prove in writing that my wife and I are married, then there is no problem either,” he concluded.
