The Kremlin has warned that if the United States allows Ukraine to use its weapons to attack Russia it will lead to an increase in tension and Washington’s involvement in the conflict, the newspaper reports. Guardian.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared this Monday in his daily press conference that there are no changes in President Vladimir Putin’s position regarding the use of American weapons against Russia, after President Joe Biden approved this Sunday the use of long-range missiles by Ukraine to attack Russian territory, according to the newspaper ‘The New York Times‘ and the news agencies Reuters and Associated Press on Sunday.
Peskov stated this Monday that Russia has only learned of the Biden Administration’s alleged decision through the Western press, since there has not yet been an official announcement from Washington. He added that, if it is confirmed that the West has given the green light to kyiv, this will lead to “a new phase of tension and a new situation regarding the involvement of the United States” in the conflict, according to statements collected by the EFE Agency.
For his part, the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Duma (Lower House of Parliament), Leonid Slutsky, has said that “the use of US missiles for attacks inside Russia will inevitably lead to a serious escalation” of the conflict. according to the Russian news agency TASS.
The decision, if confirmed, represents a drastic change in Biden’s policy regarding support for kyiv, with just two months left until he leaves office and hands over power to President-elect Donald Trump, who has a very different position regarding the US involvement in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
