TOLEDO.- Castilla-La Mancha has recorded 73 people killed in traffic accidents so far this year, 13 less than in the same period last yearthe Government delegate in the autonomous community, Milagros Tolón, indicated this Monday.
Of the total, 69 have died as a result of accidents on interurban roads and the rest within urban centers, Tolón indicated in the act of reading the manifesto and minute of silence for the deceased, which took place at the National Hospital for Paraplegics, in Toledo, on the occasion of the World Day of Remembrance of Victims of Traffic Accidents.
The Government delegate in Castilla-La Mancha has indicated that little by little efforts are being made to reduce the number of deaths and victims in traffic accidents, although she has warned: “We still have a lot to do, a lot to raise awareness and a lot to work on”.
Likewise, he commented that this day we remember the people who have died but also the victims, because as he said: “We are all potential victims every time we take a car, and that is why we have to raise awareness, make visible, and to protect from public administrations”.
In this context, Toulon has referred to the importance of campaigns such as speed control, control of drug and alcohol consumption while driving or to avoid distractions such as the use of mobile phones, as well as the improvement of communication routes. as well as the renewal of the vehicle fleet, the reinforcement of public transport and the elimination of black spots on the roads.
1.2 DEATHS PER YEAR IN THE WORLD
Every year 1.2 million people die in the world as a result of a road accident and more than 5 million people are injured, many of them with permanent consequences, as indicated in the manifesto for the World Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Traffic Accidents, which the provincial head of Traffic of Toledo, Eva María Moreno, read at the event.
Likewise, injuries caused by traffic accidents are the main cause of mortality in children and young people between 5 and 29 years oldpointed out Moreno, who added that the province of Toledo “is not immune to this problem”, since this year to date there have been 17 people dead and 68 people have been seriously injured, all of them on interurban roads.
At the same time, in Castilla-La Mancha, 69 people have died due to traffic accidents recorded on interurban roads in the region so far this year and 210 have suffered serious injuries, explained the provincial head of Traffic of Toledo, who has stressed : “AND Behind all of them there are names and surnames, a family and friendswho also suffer the consequences of road accidents”.
