The Ministry of Health stated this Monday that, within nine monthsaround one million public employees who currently have medical assistance through private companies be incorporated into the public health system. This proposal has revived the debate about whether the State should pay its workers private health insurance.
The measure will affect the beneficiaries of the system mufacea model that, according to the Ministry of Health, “is no longer sustainable under current conditions.” In relation to this model, the department maintains that “no system works if it does not have a pool of risks that allows counterweights to be exercised between those who most demand the service and those who make less intense use.”
Private health insurers have shown resistance to joining the agreement proposed by the Government, demanding an increase of more than 40% in current financing conditions. In response to this position, the Ministry of Health has proposed a nine-month extension of the current agreement, in accordance with what is established by the Public Sector Contracts Law. During this period, a process of internalization of the health care of Muface affiliates will be carried out, transferring its management to the National Health System.
