Naturgy and Total Energies They are bidding for the gas supply of Barcelona’s public bus fleet. As you have found out elEconomista.esboth companies compete for a contract estimated at around 88 million euros with a term of five years (2025-2029).
Right now, the service is in the hands of the Ibex group, which has also been awarded this year another 15 gas supply points with Transports de Barcelona SA. This public company, integrated into Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB)operates the bus network of Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
Last year, Total Energies became strong in public mobility in the Catalan capital by taking over the metro electric power supply during the period 2024-2026. The contract was tendered jointly with Metro Bilbao SA and Sociedad Concesionaria Tranvía de Murcia, and Total Energies’ offer was chosen as the most economically advantageous.
In the next three years, among the railway networks promoting the public tender, some 330 GWh will be consumed, for an estimated amount of 40 million euros annually (120 million in total) plus the regulated rate that each company pays to its distributor. This consumption is equivalent to that of all homes in a city the size of Malaga.
TMB is electrified
Although TMB is committed to electrifying its fleet, which today has 242 busesis still far from completely renewing its supply of vehicles. This 2024, the company will end the year with only 25% of vehicles with zero emissions. They will be 196 all-electric units and 46 hydrogen.
Of the rest, 182 continue to move thanks to diesel, 315 do so with compressed natural gas, 281 are diesel hybrid models and 120 are compressed natural gas hybrids.
