Legendary American skier Lindsey Vonn, who retired in 2019, will return to the US team with the intention of returning to the circuit. At 40 years old, Vonn has successfully overcome knee surgery she underwent at the beginning of the year. This has been announced by the American federation.
Vonn, a three-time Olympic medalist and four-time absolute World Cup champion, left professional activity five years ago, after an eventful career of almost two decades in which she suffered several serious injuries.
When she hung up her skis, she did so as the most successful in history, with 82 victories in the World Cup, a record that was surpassed in January 2023 by her compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin.
The American underwent partial knee replacement surgery in April and has been training in recent months to test her joints before making the decision to return to competitive skiing. “Getting back to skiing without pain has been an incredible journey. “I look forward to being back with the United States Ski Team and continuing to share my knowledge of the sport with these incredible women,” she said in a statement.

Vonn, a speed specialist who is considered one of the best of all time and who helped raise the popularity of this sport in the United States, did not indicate when or in which races she would participate.
Since injuring her ACL in 2007, Vonn has complained of frequent knee problems and broken bones. He was unable to attend the 2014 Sochi Olympics due to a serious knee injury that he has been managing since then.

“Lindsey has left an indelible mark on alpine skiing and our organization throughout her career. We are delighted to welcome him back,” said Sophie Goldschmidt, the president of the federation. “Her dedication and passion are inspiring and we are excited to have her back on the snow and see how far she can go.”
