The supposed ‘Turkish hackers’ to whom the PP government team in the Oviedo City Council attributed, on September 26, the comment published on the official profile of the Municipal Culture Foundation (FMC) on the social network never existed. X where he requested that the Asturian singer Rodrigo Cuevas be censored so that he could not offer two concerts scheduled for next December at the Campoamor theater in the Asturian capital. This is revealed by a municipal technical report commissioned by the council itself.
The conclusions of this report were released this Wednesday by the Socialist Municipal Group, which has demanded the purging of responsibilities and has regretted “the worrying tendency of Mayor Alfredo Canteli’s team to censorship and lie to citizens.”
The excuses
The controversial comment that appeared on the CulturaOviedo profile was the following: “I see with surprise this tweet in which the singer Rodrigo Cuevas also complains about censorship. Isn’t it true that you are going to give 2 concerts in December at the Campoamor Theater? I wish they would censor it, on the other hand.”
This text was retweeted with advertising from a Turkish airline and later, in view of the controversy that arose, the FMC, chaired by Culture Councilor David Álvarez, of the PP, assured that the account had been hacked.
Their explanations had no basis considering that when an account is hacked, its owner cannot write or interact with it. However, the excuse had been offered from the supposedly hacked account itself.
“Due to the hacking we are suffering. “We are forced to suspend this account temporarily,” the municipal body wrote – literally – in the “hacked” account.
The socialist councilor Jorge García Monsalve has been in charge of denying the city council itself by making this report public. This morning he held a press conference where he stressed that Canteli’s team had propagated a false hack and, instead of clarifying himself immediately, he said that he had opted for a “flight forward, flouting the truth about the “neighbors of Oviedo.”
The report prepared by the cybersecurity company CIES has completely ruled out the existence of any unauthorized access or malware on the phone of the person who manages the account. And in its conclusions it warns that this incident does not need to be notified to the National Cryptological Center (CCN) or the security forces, thus confirming that there was no hack.
“We are facing a situation that demonstrates, once again, the modus operandi of the government team, based on hiding the truth and deceiving citizens to protect their own mistakes,” stated the socialist councilor.
The “manipulation” of a management error
For García Monsalve, with this tactic the government team has tried to “manipulate a management error”, turning it into an invention of ‘Turkish hackers’ to cover up what, in his opinion, was actually simply “a political and communication irresponsibility.” ”.
In his appearance before the media, he recalled that this was not the only time that the team led by Alfredo Canteli used censorship and gave as an example the case of the cancellation in San Mateo of the performance of DJ Isaac Corrales from Oviedo.
Isaac Corrales’ participation in the San Mateo festivities fell from the planned poster in La Ería, on September 20, just a few hours before going on stage, coinciding with the publication on his social networks of an image of the streets of the completely empty city next to the emoticon of a cactus and a desert ball. The Councilor for Culture, Covadonga Díaz, denied at all times that this was the real cause of the cancellation and limited the suspension to a problem of schedule adjustment.
The “political deception” of citizens
Councilor García Monsalve has demanded this morning that the government team assume responsibility for lying in the case of the hacking that never existed and has urged Mayor Canteli to “take action on the matter” to prevent these practices from continuing to cloud transparency. of the local administration.
“It is inconceivable that accusations of hacking are resorted to when the City Council’s own reports deny it. This cannot go without a forceful response,” he added.
The councilor has stressed that his group will continue to request explanations in the relevant forums and does not rule out taking additional measures if the government team does not assume the consequences of what he has described as a “political deception” on citizens.
