Houses, businesses and entire towns have been devastated after the passage of DANA in numerous towns in Valencia. Although the losses in most cases go far beyond the material. Losing everything has caused in some what is known as post-traumatic stress, a mental health problem that develops after a traumatic event.
In addition, many others remain afraid that it will happen again. In this context, the union of the National Confederation of Labor (CNT) of Valencia has given a series of recommendations for those people who are suffering from anxiety.
Can you request medical leave for a DANA?
Two weeks after the fateful day that changed the lives of the inhabitants of these Valencian towns, many of them still do not feel physically or emotionally capable of returning to the routine they had before DANA, which is why the CNT has explained that ” “If you are going through these difficult times, the first thing is to take care of your health and ask for time off from work due to stress or anxiety.”
In these cases, it is recommended to follow the usual steps of going to the health center’s general practitioner so that the situation can be evaluated and a diagnosis issued. If the doctor sees it necessary, he will issue a medical leave report and It will not be necessary to go to work until the doctor clears you again.
New non-recoverable paid leaves
The Council of Ministers approved this Monday a second package of aid and legal measures for those affected by the Valencia dana. This new Royal Decree expands and completes the “labor shield” which includes the reasons why workers affected by DANA may be absent from work without losing their salary, through “non-recoverable paid leave.” These are the reasons for which they may benefit from paid leave with 100% of their salary:
- Inability to go or access the workplace or to carry out labor services to undertake a transfer, due to the need to clean or condition the habitual residence, for the recovery of belongings and personal effects, to obtain official or public documents and the death or disappearance of family members.
- For carrying out transfer, cleaning or conditioning tasks from the habitual residence until a stable and adequate housing solution is available; as well as carrying out the procedures to obtain documents that can only be carried out in person by the worker.
- The disappearance of family members, understanding as such the spouse, de facto partner or relative up to the second degree by consanguinity or affinity, including the blood relative of the de facto partner, as well as any other person other than the above who lived with the worker at the same address.
- Death of family members: The causal event will be extended until five business days following the funeral.
- Attention to duties of care derived from DANA. These will be substantiated by the care of the spouse, de facto partner or relative up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity, including the blood relative of the de facto partner, as well as people other than the above but who live with the worker.
