The vice president of the Valencian Community has become a reference within the regional Executive at a time when Mazón poses a crisis within his Government
With an extensive political career, Susana Camarero She became second vice president of the Generalitat and counselor of Social Services, Equality and Housing in July 2023, after the pact with Vox that made possible the return of the PP to the regional government. The signing of Camarero, a lawyer and equality expert who was in charge of all the social action of Carlos Mazón’s Executive, then served as a counterweight to the controversial agreement with the formation of Santiago Abascal.
Camarero was Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality between 2014 and 2016. In addition to serving as first secretary of the Board of the Valencian Cortes and as general secretary of the PP in Valencia, she held seats in the Congress of Deputies and the Senate, where in 2004 he was rapporteur of the law on gender violence. After the break with Vox This summer and with the departure of the first vice president, Vicente Barrera, Camarero was left with the same portfolio – one of the strong departments – as the only vice president.
Although in the first months in the Mazón Executive he monopolized all the limelight, throughout this year Camarero has been gaining ground in the responses to the opposition in the Valencian Cortes or in the constant clashes with the central government. Likewise, Mazón has appointed her to respond to parliamentary questions on matters that fall within the Presidency’s jurisdiction or to coordinate meetings with social agents.
