The assessment of the main Valencian productive sectors continues to try to accelerate the return to normality and reconstruction in the nearly 70 municipalities hit hardest by the flood on October 29. One of the largest sectors, that of metal, estimates the impact on the sector in 4,500 million euros, including losses of 1,488 million euros and another 3,000 million in terms of GDP.
According to a first estimate of the Valencian Metallurgical Business Federation (FEMEVAL)DANA has hit hard 6,150 businesses in the metal industry, commerce and services that employ 47,549 workers in areas where rains and floods have flooded most of those municipalities. Of these companies, 5,075 are seriously affected.
According to Femeval’s breakdown, the damage has reached 990 industries, 1,320 installation companies and 3,840 metal trade and vehicle repair companies.
A long list of businesses that includes hardware stores, appliance stores, jewelry stores, orthopedics, dealerships, vehicle repair shops and spare parts, machining industries, construction of metal structures, coating of parts, metal carpentry, automotive auxiliary industry, manufacturers machinery, electrical and electronic material and lighting, installation and maintenance companies for electricity, gas, water, irrigation and air conditioning, elevators, fire protection systems, ICT companies…
Reconstruction effort
“Our companies They are severely damaged and will take a long time to repair.. A great reconstruction effort must be made so that they can recover their livelihood and that of their workers,” urges the president of Femeval, Vicente Lafuente.
The business representative highlighted that Public funds are important, but so are private contributionsbecause any type of help is a lifesaver at this time to combat the devastating effects of DANA.
